Patrick Mahomes donates $5M to Texas Tech project

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany, donated the final $5 million needed to fund a major renovation project at his alma mater, Texas Tech.The university announced Thursday the donation from the couple to the South End Zone and Dustin R. Womble Football Center project, bringing the fundraising for the project to $115 million, part of the $242 million Campaign for Fearless Champions initiative that launched when Mahomes was a freshman at the Lubbock, Texas, school in 2014.Texas Tech will name the walkthrough area in the Womble center after Mahomes, as well as the Red Raiders’ quarterback meeting room and the offensive coordinator’s office.Since leaving Texas Tech, Mahomes has won three Super Bowl championships and been named NFL Most Valuable Player three times.”We couldn’t be prouder to announce this gift from Patrick and Brittany Mahomes,” said Kirby Hocutt, the Texas Tech athletic director. “We are so proud of Patrick for all he has accomplished and how he has continually supported Texas Tech on a global scale.”
