Sunday the Kansas City Chiefs will take the show on the road, as they travel to take on the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium.

You’ll be able to hear all the action on Topeka’s Rock Leader V100, with an 11 AM pregame show and Noon kick. This is a game that the Chiefs, in all honesty, should win. They are, by any measure, better than the Colts at pretty much every position on the football field, with the exception of QB and maybe #1 WR (the gap between T.Y. Hilton and Jeremy Maclin is minuscule in terms of talent). The Chiefs have the better Offensive Line, the better RBs, the better TEs, Corners, Safeties, Defensive Line, Linebackers, etc. etc. etc. There is no reason at all that the Chiefs should lose this game. Even the odds makers in Las Vegas favor our Chiefs to win. I will even say that if you were to just say that there were 2 teams of players playing each other, here’s who is on each side, I would definitely take the Chiefs every day of the week and twice on Sunday. All that being said, I fully and totally anticipate our beloved Chiefs to lose; and not only lose, but lose in spectacularly heartbreaking fashion. That is what I have come to expect any time that our Chiefs take on the damn Colts. I can’t help it. I have been burned too many times by this team. Since 1990 the Chiefs have played the Colts a total of 15 times. In those contests the Chiefs have lost 13 times, including 4 times in the Playoffs. And, in my opinion, the Chiefs were the better football team going into those games no less than 11 times. With these two teams, you can throw out the records, you can throw out pretty much everything. All I know is, when the Chiefs play the Colts, bad things happen to Kansas City. Now, despite that, I will also say, that on Sunday the Chiefs have a legitimate chance to exorcise a lot of demons for their fans.

3 Keys to Victory on Sunday.

  1. Pressure Andrew Luck – The Chiefs still appear to be a week away from getting Justin Houston back on the field. That is unfortunate, because in order to beat the Colts you have to beat up Andrew Luck. The Chiefs are still capable of getting pressure though, and just like the last 2 weeks. Dee Ford, Tamba Hali, and Frank Zombo need to be in the quarterback’s face. He has speedy receivers on the outside and is a strong, resilient player. He’s tough to sack, but it has to happen if the Chiefs want to win this one.
  2. Establish and Stick to the run – Just like the last 2 weeks against high powered offenses. The Chiefs have a chance to control this game because of the weakness of the opposing defense. Spencer Ware, Jamaal Charles, and Charcandrick West need to be the focal points of the Chiefs offense. Run early, run often, and keep the Colts’ offense off the field. If the Chiefs can’t or don’t stick to the run, they will lose.
  3. Don’t Let Up – I hate to re-open old wounds, but the fact of the matter is, last time the Chiefs went to Indianapolis they dominated the game for 3 and a half quarters. Then took their foot off the gas and got beat. The last couple of weeks we’ve also seemed to let up a little late in the game when we had the lead. We can’t let that happen. The Chiefs have to come out and play consistently for 4 quarters, be unrelenting in every aspect. If you do that, you win, plain and simple.

That pretty much sums it up. Do those 3 things and we’ll come away victorious. As for my prediction for the game – I think the Chiefs will come out strong, possibly build an early lead. I’ll say go into halftime up 13-3 or so. By the end of the game it will be MUCH closer, and if history is any indication the Chiefs will lose 24-23. However, I’m going to go against my better instincts. I’m going to against everything that my head says. Against every piece of emotional scar tissue that remains in my heart because of the Colts, and I’m going to pick the Chiefs to hang on and win 27-17 and take yet another step toward achieving the ultimate goal! Exorcise those demons, let’s Go Chiefs! Get it Done!
